Midcentury modern abstract painting.
Period abstract expressionist painting boasting gestural, thick impasto oil on linen circa late forties/early fifties
Dynamic swirls of gray and white, and vibrant hues of red, blue and terracotta.
Bold use of materials combines with confidant expressionistic composition.
Work looks forward to the later work of Altoon, Hassel Smith and Frank Lobdell and backward to Soutine.

From the estate and personal collection of esteemed midcentury San Francisco dealer David Dutra who attended CCAC and with his Market Street location across from Modern Artifacts established one of the first galleries in the United States to offer Dunbar and vintage Herman Miller items along with postwar art.
Original frame has been re-lacquered and hand buffed to soft luster.
Condition Details:
Stretcher bars have been stabilized.  General conservation applied to canvas  and painting.  Original frame has been re-lacquered piano-black lacquer with hand-rubbed surface for deep luster.
