Pair of Royal Metal Leather Lounge Chairs

9,500.00

Pair of Royal Metal Leather lounge chairs inspired by Mies van der Rohe and Kjaerholm.
Extremely rare mid-century US Made Royal Metal Corporation Chairs not likely to be seen for sale again anytime soon.  See Abrams Design for Modern Living vintage publication on Interior Design for variation of same, pp.111.
Handsome cantilevered loungers offer elegance of Mies Barcelonas but with more comfortable seat height and pitch.  And, yes, when you get older, you’ll still be able to get up and out of this chair without the aid of two other grown adults..not so with the Barcolona.. as you might have noticed.  I sure have.. and I’m still pretty young.. all the more annoying given the lack of comfort even before you’ve attempted to extricate yourself from Mies’s clutches.. same with the PK 22s.
Steel construction also offers less lethal presence then Barcelona’s with more modern footing not unlike Kjaerholm’s own famous interpretation of same with his own classic PK22.
Here we have a less iconic.. but arguably more interesting alternative with, again, a more comfortable upright sit than either of the other designs offer.  Design is robust with indestructible base of heavy stock chromed steel with heavy duty chromed fasteners and perforated steel substrate across bottom of seat.
Sturdy and heavy with solid, comfortable feel and support but light in appearance with buoyant bounce from generous cantilever..
The floating flourish made the more apparent at higher altitude lends a daring even playful appearance to an otherwise formal seating arrangement referencing Knoll’s famous buttonless deep tufting leather assembly and understated reductive forms where the soft richness of leather is played off the cold sexy lines of polished chrome.
Note idiosyncratic introduction of asymmetrical arm breaking up the monotony of what might have been just another armless interpretations of Mies’s masterpiece.  Echoing the cantilevered drama of overall design, the curiously danish flavored triangular shaped arm support offers up a floating warm walnut surface upon which to rest one’s naked arm.. The rich, warm walnut complements the cold chrome and chocolate leather.  It has been hand rubbed to soft luster with supple hand.
The bold and singular arm design also affords the chance to decorate with a pair of loungers that match without being redundant or predictable.
Chairs are completely restored with new upholstery, new top grade supple chocolate leather and newly re-chromed frames.
